Gujarat Titans, led by Shubman Gill, faced an uphill battle to secure a spot in the IPL 2024 playoffs. Despite being former champions in the 2022 edition, their current season has been plagued by challenges, including a poor run rate of -1.063. This unfavorable run rate had already placed them on the brink of elimination from the playoff race before their scheduled match against Kolkata Knight Riders.

Rain plays spoilsport

The much-anticipated match between Gujarat Titans and Kolkata Knight Riders at the Narendra Modi Stadium was delayed due to bad weather in Ahmedabad. Unfortunately for Gujarat Titans, the rain persisted, leading to the abandonment of the match. With this outcome, Gujarat Titans found themselves out of contention for the playoffs, as they could only secure a maximum of 14 points in the league stage.

The washout against Kolkata Knight Riders officially marked Gujarat Titans as the third team to be eliminated from the IPL 2024 playoff race. Despite their efforts, the combination of their poor run rate and the unfortunate weather conditions sealed their fate.

KKR's progress and playoff scenario

On the other hand, Kolkata Knight Riders, led by Shreyas Iyer, had a contrasting journey. Having already secured their place in the playoffs, KKR accumulated 18 points in the league stage, placing them comfortably ahead in the standings. With their playoff berth confirmed, KKR continues their quest for IPL glory, while Gujarat Titans grapple with the disappointment of an early exit.
