Bollywood celebrities went to the polling booths on Monday to cast their votes for the Lok Sabha Election 2024. However, some found their names missing from the voter’s list. Music composer Amit Trivedi was among them. He shared his disappointment in a video posted on Twitter. Amit went to vote during Phase 5 of the elections in Mumbai but discovered his name was not on the list.

In the video, Amit explained his experience. He showed his receipt, which had the booth number, and his voter’s ID and Aadhaar card. However, the officer at the booth said his number was not listed. Amit was told to return to the officers who gave him the receipt to fix the issue. After waiting in a long queue for 30 minutes, he was informed that his name was not in their records either. Frustrated and helpless, Amit shared his story on Twitter, questioning how and why this happened. He expressed his disappointment, saying, “Voting is our constitutional right. Today I was denied that right and I feel helpless. Did this happen to anyone else? How.. and why?? #elections.”

Clarification and support

Amit’s tweet received various responses. Some people suggested he should have checked his details online before going to vote. A user commented, “That's why you should take the effort and check online where all your details are listed by @ECISVEEP. You can search by ID number or mobile number, it would have saved a lot of trouble.” Another wrote, “Why didn't you yourself check your part number and serial number via @ECISVEEP web/app facility? It's pretty robust and useful.”

In response, Amit clarified that all necessary checks were done online before he went to vote. He mentioned that another family member who was with him voted without any issues, highlighting the inconsistency. He replied, “I have seen your replies here. Just to make it clear, all the online due diligence and checking was done in advance. Another family member and I were in the correct booth, one got to vote and the other didn’t.”

Amit Trivedi is known for his work as a playback singer in popular films like Andhadhun, Kedarnath, Badhaai Do, and RRR. Despite his disappointment, his experience highlights the importance of verifying voter information ahead of elections to avoid such issues.
