Delhi Chief Minister and AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal announced on Monday that he has asked for a seven-day extension of his interim bail. Kejriwal explained that he needs more time to undergo medical tests due to a significant, unexplained weight loss. He revealed this during a press briefing in Bathinda, Punjab.
Kejriwal’s weight has dropped by 7 kg in a month, which has raised serious health concerns. Doctors have recommended a series of tests to identify any potential underlying health issues. Kejriwal stated, "If a person's weight falls by 7 kg in a month without any reason, then it is a very serious problem. The doctors have prescribed several tests. I have asked for 7 days so that I can get all my tests done within a week."
The Supreme Court granted Kejriwal interim bail until June 1, with instructions to surrender on June 2. Kejriwal's bail request highlighted that he experienced significant health issues during his custody from March 21 to May 10, partly due to inadequate care by jail authorities. Recent medical tests have shown elevated blood glucose and ketone levels, indicating possible kidney issues.

Kejriwal's plea emphasized the need for early detection of these health problems to prevent further deterioration. The plea stated that failing to undergo these tests could put his life at "high risk."
During his bail period, the court has restricted Kejriwal from visiting his office or the Delhi secretariat and from signing official documents unless absolutely necessary. He was required to furnish bail bonds of ₹50,000 with one surety of the same amount.
Kejriwal was arrested on March 21 by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in a money laundering investigation related to the now-scrapped Delhi excise policy for 2021-22. He was the third AAP leader arrested in this case, following former Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia, who remains in jail since February 2023.
