The seven-phase Lok Sabha election will finish with the last round of voting on Saturday. This final phase includes 57 parliamentary seats across seven states and the Union Territory of Chandigarh. After the polling ends, everyone will focus on the exit polls, which will predict whether the ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA) or the Congress-led opposition INDIA (Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance) bloc will form the next government.

Exit Polls: what and when?

Exit polls are surveys conducted after people vote, asking them who they voted for as they leave the polling station. They aim to predict the actual election results, which will be declared on June 4. However, exit polls are not always accurate.

The Election Commission (ECI) has banned news channels from publishing exit poll results until 6 pm on June 1, the final day of voting. After this time, news channels will start showing their exit poll predictions around 6:30-7 pm on Saturday. These projections will also be available on various social media platforms, including YouTube.

Key election details

The Lok Sabha election began with the first round of voting on April 19. The subsequent phases took place on April 26, May 7, 13, 20, and 25. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) aims for a third consecutive term at the Centre and hopes to maintain its single-party majority. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who has been the Member of Parliament (MP) from Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, since his first Lok Sabha election in 2014, is contesting this seat for the third time. His main opponent is Ajay Rai, the Congress party's state unit chief, who finished third in both the 2014 and 2019 elections.
