Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu announced a significant increase in prize money for athletes excelling in international championships. For the Olympics, Winter Olympics, and Paralympics, gold medal winners will now receive ₹5 crore, up from ₹3 crore. Silver medallists will get ₹3 crore instead of ₹2 crore, and bronze medallists will be awarded ₹2 crore, up from ₹1 crore.

Enhanced rewards for other competitions

The prize money for Asian Games and Para Asian Games has also seen a substantial increase. Gold medallists will now receive ₹4 crore, up from ₹50 lakh. Silver medallists will get ₹2.50 crore instead of ₹30 lakh, and bronze medallists will receive ₹1.50 crore instead of ₹20 lakh. In the Commonwealth Games and Para Commonwealth Games, gold medal winners will now get ₹3 crore, silver medallists ₹2 crore, and bronze medallists ₹1 crore, significantly higher than previous amounts.

Chief Minister Sukhu emphasized that this increase in prize money reflects the government’s dedication to promoting sports and recognizing the hard work of athletes. The new sports policy aims to encourage sporting excellence and support the overall development of sports in the state. This move is expected to boost morale and attract more talent to pursue sports in Himachal Pradesh.
