High drama unfolded in Chandigarh’s Sector 17 when Vikram Singh from Jind district, Haryana, climbed a 200-foot tower, demanding a meeting with Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann. The incident began at 8:30 am and lasted for five hours. Vikram sought Mann's intervention in a long-pending land dispute in Mansa district, Punjab. He claimed to have visited multiple police stations in Mansa and Jind without receiving any assistance.
Deputy Superintendent of Police (Central) Gurmukh Singh communicated with Vikram over the phone and convinced him to come down. Around 1:30 pm, police and fire brigade personnel safely brought Vikram down from the tower, located between the Sector 17 police station and the bus stand.
Vikram was immediately taken for a medical check-up. Afterward, Chandigarh Police escorted him to Chief Minister Mann's residence in Sector 3. Although Mann was not present, his Officer on Special Duty (OSD) assured Vikram that a meeting would be arranged within one to two days.
Police revealed that Vikram had initially tried to climb towers at other locations in Chandigarh, including the Sector 43 bus stand, but those towers were locked. He eventually found an accessible tower in Sector 17.
