Anurag Kashyap shared his thoughts on the high costs of celebrity entourages in Bollywood. In an interview with Janice Sequeira, he mentioned some of the most outrageous demands made by celebrities. One example he gave was an actor’s chef who charged ₹2 lakh per day to prepare tiny, birdfeed-like meals. The actor insisted this was the only food they could eat due to health issues.
Anurag also recounted a time when an actor insisted that his driver fetch a specific burger from a five-star hotel, three hours away, from a remote location. Anurag joked that the burger would have gone cold by the time it reached the actor.
Anurag criticized producers and agents for allowing such demands, stating that this doesn’t happen on his sets. He pointed out that hair and makeup artists charge ₹75,000 per day, much more than technicians. He remarked that if he were a hair and makeup artist, he’d be much richer.
Anurag’s longtime collaborator, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, agreed with his views. Nawazuddin said many actors have unnecessary demands and live lavishly. He mentioned some actors have five vanity vans for different purposes like gymming, cooking, eating, bathing, and practicing lines. He called this behavior madness and unnecessary.
Anurag and Nawazuddin’s comments highlight the extravagant demands made by some celebrities in Bollywood and the role of producers in enabling such behavior.
