JP Nadda, Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare and BJP President, has been appointed as the Leader of the House in the Rajya Sabha. He succeeds Piyush Goyal, now a Lok Sabha member from Maharashtra's North Mumbai.
Nadda's journey to this role began in February when he was nominated to the Rajya Sabha from Gujarat, marking his third term in the Upper House after resigning from Himachal Pradesh's seat. Known for his parliamentary experience and leadership within the BJP, Nadda takes over a position previously held by senior figures like late Arun Jaitley and Thawar Chand Gehlot.

Acknowledged for his affability and patience, Nadda's role as Leader of the House involves navigating legislative challenges and fostering communication between the government and the Opposition. With the BJP as the largest party in the Rajya Sabha, but requiring support from various quarters for bill passage, Nadda's diplomatic skills are deemed crucial.
His political career started with the ABVP, the student wing of the RSS, followed by multiple terms in Himachal Pradesh's legislative assembly and his tenure as a Union minister. Commenting on Nadda's new role, Congress leader Jairam Ramesh highlighted the need for cooperation between the ruling party and the Opposition in parliamentary proceedings.
