During his speech at the NAACP’s annual convention, President Joe Biden playfully suggested that Vice President Kamala Harris "could be president of the United States." Biden, 81, praised Harris, describing her not only as a great vice president but also as capable of assuming the highest office.
Despite speculation and calls for him to step down, Biden gave no indication of resigning. In fact, he asserted that he already has plans laid out for the first 100 days of a potential second term. One of his key priorities would be signing voting-rights legislation into law.
Harris, who would be the most likely successor should Biden vacate the presidency, has faced criticism for not establishing a distinct role within the Biden administration and has struggled with low approval ratings. However, Biden's remarks highlighted her potential as a presidential candidate.
During his address, Biden also took aim at former President Donald Trump, criticizing his tenure and actions. Biden accused Trump of creating difficulties for Black Americans during his presidency and condemned Trump's response to the 2020 protests following George Floyd's murder. Biden emphasized the need to address racial inequality and accused Republicans of working against the principles upheld by organizations like the NAACP.
