Delhi Lt Governor VK Saxena has accused Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal of deliberately not following his medical diet and medication while in Tihar jail. According to a letter from Saxena, there have been reports of Kejriwal intentionally consuming fewer calories, despite having access to sufficient home-cooked meals.

Health concerns and allegations

The LG’s letter to Chief Secretary Naresh Kumar refers to a report from the jail superintendent, which claims that Kejriwal has not been consuming his prescribed diet consistently from June 6 to July 13. The report indicates weight loss and suggests that it is due to low calorie intake.

The LG’s letter also notes issues with Kejriwal’s insulin administration. On June 18, there were discrepancies in insulin records, and on July 6 and 7, Kejriwal either did not consume his prescribed meals or refused insulin. The letter raises concerns about variations between glucometer test results and continuous glucose monitoring system readings.

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has accused the BJP-led central government of trying to harm Kejriwal’s health. They claim that the Chief Minister’s health has deteriorated, with severe drops in blood sugar levels leading to weight loss and possible brain damage.

The LG has advised prison authorities to ensure Kejriwal follows his prescribed diet and medication due to his history of Type-II Diabetes Mellitus. The situation remains under scrutiny as both sides respond to these health concerns.
