A 43-year-old non-resident Indian (NRI) from the US was shot at his home in Amritsar by two armed men. The incident occurred on Saturday morning in the Daburji area when the victim, Sukhchain Singh, was brushing his teeth. The assailants, posing as visitors, asked about his car’s registration details before pulling out pistols and forcing him inside. They shot him three times, with two bullets hitting his head and arm. However, one of their guns malfunctioned, preventing them from completing the attack.
Singh’s family suspects the involvement of his former in-laws, as he had been receiving threats after the death of his first wife, who allegedly died by suicide in 2022. The police are investigating this angle, along with other possibilities. CCTV footage shows the attackers fleeing after their gun jammed.

Authorities are working to identify and apprehend the attackers. The incident highlights concerns over rising crime in Punjab, with political leaders criticizing the state’s declining law and order situation.
