Kangana Ranaut sparked controversy by claiming that the farmers' protests could have led to a situation similar to Bangladesh if the central government hadn’t acted. Her remarks have drawn sharp criticism, particularly from Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha.

Rahul Gandhi’s strong response

Rahul Gandhi criticized the BJP and Kangana in a social media post, accusing the government of failing to support farmers and engaging in propaganda. He condemned Kangana’s comments, where she allegedly referred to the protesting farmers as “rapists” and agents of foreign forces. Gandhi labeled these statements as an insult to farmers, especially those from regions like western Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, and Punjab, where the protests were most intense.

Gandhi also highlighted how the government had not yet clarified its stance on the Minimum Support Price (MSP), provided no relief to the families of farmers who lost their lives during the protests, and kept the committee formed during the movement inactive. He emphasized that disrespecting farmers and attacking their dignity cannot cover up the Modi government’s betrayal.

Kangana’s controversial remarks and BJP’s reaction

Kangana Ranaut, a first-time BJP MP, caused a stir when she suggested that the farmers' protests could have escalated into a chaotic situation similar to Bangladesh. In an interview, she alleged that there were incidents of violence and rapes during the protests. Her comments were quickly met with criticism, even from within her own party.

The BJP responded by distancing itself from Kangana’s remarks, making it clear that she is not authorized to speak on the party’s policies. The party also instructed her not to make such statements in the future.
