Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath emphasized the importance of national unity during a public meeting in Agra, in light of the ongoing unrest in Bangladesh. His statement came after reports of attacks on Hindus following the political crisis in Bangladesh, which began when Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina was ousted.

Warning against division

Adityanath stressed that unity is essential for the strength of the nation, warning against divisions. He stated, "If we divide, we’ll suffer; if we stay united, we’ll thrive." He cautioned against repeating the mistakes seen in Bangladesh. The Chief Minister also criticized the opposition for remaining silent on the attacks against Hindus in Bangladesh, accusing them of ignoring these issues out of fear of losing their vote bank.

Attacks on Hindus in Bangladesh

The unrest in Bangladesh has led to widespread attacks on Hindus, who make up 8% of the population. Hindu temples have been desecrated, and properties belonging to the community have been targeted. The Bangladesh Hindu Buddhist Christian Unity Council reported over 200 attacks since Sheikh Hasina’s departure. Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed concern over the situation and called for the safety and protection of minorities in Bangladesh.
