Former Jharkhand Chief Minister Champai Soren is set to join the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on August 30. Soren met with Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma in New Delhi on Monday night. Sarma, who is co-incharge of the Jharkhand assembly elections scheduled for November-December, confirmed the news through a social media post.
Champai Soren, currently a minister in the Jharkhand government, expressed dissatisfaction with the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) leadership earlier this month. He shared on social media how he felt humiliated by the way he was removed as Chief Minister without prior notice. Soren, who served as Chief Minister for five months in 2020, has been a six-time MLA from Seraikela since 1991.

Despite his current role in the JMM government, Soren has been touring key assembly constituencies, signaling his intention to influence the upcoming elections. His move to the BJP is seen as a significant setback for the JMM.
