North Korean leader Kim Jong Un may have ordered the execution of about 30 government officials after recent floods caused over a thousand deaths in Chagang Province, according to South Korean media. The heavy rains and landslides in July led to significant destruction, including the flooding of thousands of homes and farmland, leaving many people dead, injured, or homeless. Reports suggest that these officials were punished for failing to prevent the disaster.

North Korean state media, KCNA, reported that Kim Jong Un held an emergency Politburo meeting where he called for strict punishment of those responsible for the failure to prevent the casualties. The dismissed Chagang Province Party secretary, Kang Bong-hoon, is under investigation for his role in the disaster. Due to North Korea's secrecy, verifying these reports is difficult, but they highlight the extreme measures taken by the regime in response to perceived negligence.
