The Enforcement Directorate (ED) is investigating a major land scam in Jharkhand. They have discovered that 1,800 acres of tribal land were illegally taken by criminals who altered land records. This land, which was designated as non-saleable under the Chota Nagpur Tenancy (CNT) Act, was manipulated using fake documents and false identities.
The ED has identified ₹3,000 crore in criminal proceeds related to this case. They found that the land grabbers used fraudulent deeds and fake records from various offices in Kolkata and Jharkhand to take control of the land.

The investigation has led to the arrest of at least 25 people, including Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren, who was arrested on January 31 and released on June 28. The ED's charge sheet claims that Soren illegally acquired 8.86 acres of land in Ranchi, valued at ₹31 crore, although Soren denies these allegations.
The ED has also recovered numerous property documents and original registers from an accused, Bhanu Pratap Prasad. The accused are said to have created backdated deeds from Kolkata, which were then certified and used to sell the land illegally. The investigation is ongoing, with the ED continuing to verify complaints and uncover additional evidence.
