On Thursday, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) conducted raids at several locations in Kolkata related to financial irregularities at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. The searches included the residence of Satya Prakash Ghosh, father of Sandip Ghosh, the former principal of the hospital.
The ED, along with the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), is looking into allegations of financial misconduct. They have already questioned Akhter Ali, a former deputy superintendent at the hospital, about possible nepotism in vendor selection by Sandip Ghosh. Ali has alleged that Ghosh and others were involved in corrupt practices and that the hospital’s bio-medical waste management was not functioning properly.
The ED is investigating at least seven properties linked to Sandip Ghosh and his wife, suspecting they may have been acquired with illicit funds. Last week, the agency found documents related to these properties during their searches.

Additionally, Sangeeta Ghosh, who worked as an assistant professor at the hospital, is accused of buying two properties without state government approval. She was granted approval retroactively in 2021. Sangeeta Ghosh has claimed that her husband did nothing wrong.
The investigation continues as authorities seek to uncover more details about the alleged corruption and misuse of funds.
