Background on Sidhu Moosewala

Sidhu Moosewala was shot in Mansa, Punjab, on May 29, 2022. His final song, "SYL," was released posthumously in June 2022. The Punjab police later accused Canada-based singer Goldy Brar and gangster Lawrence Bishnoi of orchestrating the murder. According to reports, Moosewala was shot over 30 times and was found slumped in his car.

His death sparked political controversy in Punjab, leading to demands for the dismissal of the Bhagwant Mann government. Just a day before his murder, his security was reduced. Moosewala, who contested the 2019 assembly election from Mansa on a Congress ticket, was defeated by AAP's Vijay Singla. He is survived by his parents, Balkaur Singh and Charan Kaur. Earlier this year, his parents welcomed a baby boy named Shubhdeep, in memory of Sidhu.
