Mukesh Bora, a former administrator at the Uttarakhand Cooperative Dairy Federation, is facing severe allegations of raping a 36-year-old woman and molesting her 12-year-old daughter. The Uttarakhand police have mobilized 20 personnel across seven specialized teams to locate Bora, who has been evading capture for over three weeks since the accusations surfaced.

Despite extensive efforts, including regular raids at suspected hideouts, Bora remains on the run. Haldwani circle officer Nitin Lohani expressed concerns about potential leaks within the police force, indicating that some officials might be providing Bora with information about police movements. Reports suggest that a transport department official has been sharing updates with Bora via WhatsApp, allowing him to evade arrest.

The police plan to take action against anyone aiding Bora's escape and are preparing to announce a cash reward for information leading to his capture. They also intend to declare him a fugitive once the chargesheet is filed in court. There are fears that Bora might attempt to flee to Nepal, as unconfirmed reports indicate he may have taken a taxi toward the border.

Rejection of Bail

On September 21, the Uttarakhand High Court rejected Bora's anticipatory bail application, stating that such relief is not applicable in cases under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. The court emphasized that granting bail could hinder the investigation and lead to a miscarriage of justice.

Bora's alleged crimes date back to November 2021 when he reportedly raped the victim under the pretense of offering her a permanent job. The victim claims he continued to assault her and threatened her through his driver if she refused his demands. Following these allegations, the state government swiftly removed him from his position at the cooperative dairy federation.

The situation has drawn political attention, with Congress criticizing the BJP for allegedly failing to apprehend Bora promptly. BJP leaders have denied any wrongdoing and asserted that law enforcement is actively pursuing him.
