Vice President Kamala Harris is experiencing a significant drop in popularity as the Election Day approaches. According to a recent NBC News poll, she and former President Donald Trump are now tied at 48% among registered voters, just three weeks before the elections. Harris had a 5-point lead over Trump in September, but that advantage has disappeared.
Jeff Horwitt, a Democratic pollster, noted that Harris's momentum has stalled as summer turned to fall. This decline in her favorability is concerning for the Harris campaign, especially since she had a boost in popularity earlier this year after taking charge of the Democratic campaign.

The poll results indicate that voters are increasingly viewing Harris as a continuation of President Joe Biden's administration rather than a fresh choice. Many voters have begun to look more favorably at Trump's previous presidency, helping him close the gap. Pollster Bill McInturff mentioned that Harris faces challenges since voters may perceive her as asking for another term from the incumbent party. Meanwhile, Trump is benefiting from a positive reassessment of his past term in office.
Harris's approval rating has also taken a hit, dropping to 43% positive and 49% negative, giving her a net rating of -6. This marks a shift from the previous month when her positive rating was 48% against 45% negative, resulting in a net rating of +3. The decline in her favorability is largely driven by independents and younger voters, which are critical demographics she needs to retain support from.
Moreover, the poll reveals a notable gender gap. Harris has a 14-point lead among women, while Trump enjoys a 16-point advantage among men. Both candidates are struggling to secure support from independent voters, many of whom remain undecided or unwilling to support either candidate.
As the race tightens, the upcoming weeks will be vital for Harris to regain support among key voter groups, while Trump aims to maintain his momentum.
