The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) announced on Sunday that Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav will serve as central observers for the Haryana BJP legislative party meeting. This meeting will focus on electing the next Chief Minister of Haryana. The announcement was made via a post on X (formerly Twitter).

Nayab Singh Saini, the caretaker chief minister, was earlier named the party's CM candidate ahead of the assembly elections. He won the Ladwa assembly constituency by defeating Congress candidate Mewa Singh by over 16,000 votes, according to the Election Commission of India.

Upcoming oath-taking ceremony

The ruling BJP achieved a surprising hat-trick victory in the Haryana elections, winning 48 out of 90 assembly seats, despite predictions favoring the opposition Congress. The oath-taking ceremony for the new Haryana cabinet is scheduled for October 17 and will be attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and several chief ministers from other BJP-ruled states.

Union Minister Manohar Lal Khattar confirmed that the Prime Minister has approved the ceremony in Panchkula. However, neither Amit Shah nor Mohan Yadav disclosed who will be sworn in as the new Chief Minister or which MLAs might be inducted into the state cabinet. Sources suggest that the party may consider granting Saini a second term as Chief Minister.

The BJP is also likely to bring in new faces for the deputy chief minister positions, as eight out of ten ministers from Saini's previous government lost their elections.
