On Tuesday, West Bengal Governor CV Ananda Bose requested a formal report from Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee regarding the RG Kar Medical College case. The investigation has drawn significant attention due to recent allegations by the main suspect, Sanjay Roy, who claims he was falsely accused. According to Roy, former Kolkata Police Commissioner Vineet Goyal and other high-ranking officers framed him for the assault and murder of a junior doctor. The incident has escalated tensions in the state, with Governor Bose now urging the state government to clarify its position and share detailed information about the case.
The RG Kar case began on August 9, when a young doctor’s body was found inside a seminar hall at the hospital. Autopsy reports confirmed the victim had been raped and murdered, leading to widespread shock and demands for justice. Sanjay Roy, a volunteer with the Kolkata Police, was soon arrested as the prime suspect. However, Roy has since made public statements claiming he is innocent, asserting that high-level police officers conspired to frame him. As Roy was taken from Sealdah Court following a hearing, he shouted to reporters that he was being falsely accused due to the influence of senior police officials, naming former Police Commissioner Goyal as being behind the alleged conspiracy.

Following Roy's statements, the governor issued a request for a thorough update on the investigation from the chief minister. In a public statement on X (formerly Twitter), Raj Bhavan’s Media Cell conveyed that Governor Bose has asked for the state government to take immediate action to verify Roy’s claims and provide clear information on the status of the investigation. His concern was driven by what he described as “disturbing reports” related to the case that suggest possible misconduct by authorities.
With the case gaining national attention, public demands for transparency have grown. Many citizens are calling for an impartial investigation, hoping to understand whether Roy's allegations of police involvement hold any merit. Meanwhile, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has yet to release an official statement. As the state government works to address both the public's and the governor’s concerns, the RG Kar case has raised serious questions about accountability and justice, with all eyes on the unfolding investigation.
