Dudhwa National Park, located in the Terai region of India, is famous for its lush forests, diverse wildlife, and vibrant bird species. The park has become a favorite destination for nature lovers and travelers across the country. With its sprawling expanse of 495.9 square miles, Dudhwa Tiger Reserve also includes Kishanpur Wildlife Sanctuary, known for its rich bird population, and Katarniaghat Wildlife Sanctuary.

Now, visiting this incredible destination is even easier, as air travel has been introduced. A helicopter service from Lucknow airport to the park was launched recently, offering a faster and more convenient travel option. The one-way helicopter ride costs ₹5,000 per person, saving visitors the time spent on road journeys.

A growing tourist hub

Rengaraju T., Deputy Director of Dudhwa Tiger Reserve, shared that the park is open to visitors until June next year. Since the pandemic, the park has seen a consistent rise in the number of tourists. Unlike other popular parks, Dudhwa maintains a low vehicle density, ensuring a peaceful and immersive wildlife experience.

The accommodation options at the park remain affordable, with cottages starting at ₹5,500 per night. This makes it an attractive option for families and groups looking for a budget-friendly getaway.

Unforgettable Wildlife encounters

Veteran wildlife photographer Aruna Singh, who frequently visits Dudhwa, describes the park as her paradise. She recalls a memorable moment during a safari trip when her group spotted a tiger, leaving everyone in awe. “Capturing the beauty of the park’s flora and fauna is always a magical experience,” she says.

Dr. Able Lawrence, a birdwatching enthusiast, highlights the park’s incredible avian diversity. Iconic species such as the Lesser Adjutant, Grey-Headed Fish Eagle, Crested Hawk-Eagle, and Great Slaty Woodpecker make Dudhwa a must-visit for bird lovers. While restrictions on foot movement can be challenging for birdwatchers, a fieldscope helps explore the vast grasslands effectively.
