The Gurugram Metro extension project aims to connect Millennium City Centre with the Railway Station, Sector-22, and Cyber City. Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini has directed Gurugram Metro Rail Ltd. (GMRL) to start construction by May 1, 2025, and complete the 29-kilometre line within four years. This directive was issued during a review meeting on Tuesday.
At the meeting, the Chief Minister emphasized the need for coordinated efforts between GMRL and local civic agencies to minimize inconvenience to residents during construction. Saini urged officials to ensure smooth traffic flow and prepare a detailed plan to avoid disruptions. According to a statement from the district administration, he said, “The project should begin as soon as possible, and residents should not face problems during the construction phase.”
Officials were also instructed to expedite the appointment of a general consultant for the project. Parveen Kumar, a senior official, highlighted that these steps aim to streamline the execution process and ensure timely delivery.

The estimated cost of the Gurugram Metro extension is ₹5,452.72 crore. Of this, ₹869.19 crore will be provided by the central government, while ₹4,556.53 crore will come from the Haryana government. This financial plan underscores the collaborative effort between state and central authorities to enhance Gurugram’s connectivity.
Geotechnical investigations for the first 13-kilometre segment of the project, known as Package 1, have been completed. Civil, architectural, and electrical work is already underway. Officials shared that tenders for depot construction and Package 1 will be finalized by January 31, 2025. Meanwhile, tenders for Package 2 will be issued by February 15, 2025.
Chander Shekhar Khare, Managing Director of Haryana Mass Rapid Transport Corporation (HMRTC) and GMRL, assured that efforts are being made to fast-track the project. “We aim to start work as early as possible while ensuring minimal inconvenience to the public,” he said. Recruitment for 20 senior positions is also in progress, alongside the appointment of the general consultant.
During the same meeting, Chief Minister Saini reviewed the proposed Panchgram scheme. This initiative focuses on developing five industrial cities along the Kundli-Manesar-Palwal (KMP) Expressway. The cities will integrate industrial, residential, commercial, and infrastructure facilities to attract investments and create job opportunities. Saini suggested expanding the plan to include 10 industrial cities across the state to boost employment and make Haryana an attractive destination for investors.
The Chief Minister emphasized that these industrial hubs should offer comprehensive amenities to support various activities, including housing, business, and transportation. The initiative aims to strengthen Haryana’s economic landscape and provide a robust framework for future development.
