Monalisa, a 16-year-old girl from Indore, became an internet sensation after her pictures from the ongoing Maha Kumbh Mela went viral. She never expected that this sudden fame would land her a role in a Bollywood movie. However, her dreams of becoming an actress are now coming true. Monalisa has signed her first film, The Diary of Manipur, directed by Sanoj Mishra. She will be acting alongside Amit Rao, who is the brother of Bollywood actor Rajkummar Rao.
In a conversation with HT City, Monalisa expressed her excitement and disbelief. She shared, “If I tell the truth, I always wondered when I would become a heroine. I have always loved acting and dancing.” Her love for performing was always strong, but she never thought that she would get a chance in Bollywood so soon.
Monalisa's story is not just about luck. It is about how quickly social media can change someone’s life. A simple visit to the Maha Kumbh Mela turned her into a well-known figure overnight. Her pictures were widely shared, and people started recognizing her wherever she went. Though the attention was overwhelming, it also opened doors to opportunities she had never imagined.
A Bollywood dream comes true
When asked about her favorite actors, Monalisa gave an unexpected answer. “I like my parents the most!” she said, before adding, “I like Sonakshi Sinha, and my favorite hero is Salman Khan. He shot Dabangg 3 in Maheshwar, which is in Madhya Pradesh.” She admires Sonakshi Sinha’s acting skills and is a big fan of Salman Khan’s larger-than-life presence in films.
For Monalisa, the journey from being a regular girl to a Bollywood actress has been fast and surprising. She was not actively looking for a break in the film industry. However, after becoming famous, she caught the attention of filmmaker Sanoj Mishra. He saw her potential and approached her with a role in his film.
Though this was a dream come true, Monalisa also faced challenges. The sudden fame brought her a lot of attention, not all of it positive. Many people started taking selfies and making videos with her. “So many people troubled me,” she recalled. “I used to wonder—am I really a heroine? Are they lying to me? Some people promised things, but nothing happened. If I had gotten a car, I would have been driving around in it.”
She also faced problems with social media. “Someone hacked my Instagram account,” she revealed. “They told me they would help it grow, but they took my password. Now, someone else is using it. Many fake accounts have been created in my name, but they are all fake.”

After facing these troubles, Monalisa tried to stay away from people. However, fate had different plans for her. Filmmaker Sanoj Mishra personally came to her home to offer her the role. “It is all destiny,” she said. “Sir came looking for me and found my house. Now I am ready to act and learn.”
Monalisa admits that she has not focused much on education. “I haven’t studied much,” she confessed. “I just sign papers when needed. I have signed Sir’s film.”
She left behind the life she knew at Maha Kumbh Mela to follow her Bollywood dreams. “I left my mala and rudraksh (holy beads) there,” she said. “I have suffered losses, but this is my new beginning.”
Monalisa has two brothers and a younger sister. She is now preparing to step into the world of cinema, a place she had only dreamed of before. From a viral internet personality to a Bollywood debut, her journey is a unique example of how life can change unexpectedly.
