Preparations are in full swing for the Basant Panchami Amrit Snan, the third and final bathing festival of the Mahakumbh 2025, scheduled for February 3. The event is expected to attract an enormous number of pilgrims, with estimates suggesting over 5 crore attendees. In light of previous incidents, particularly the tragic stampede during the Mauni Amavasya, authorities have implemented extensive crowd management and safety measures to ensure a smooth experience for all.
To manage the large influx of devotees, a comprehensive crowd management plan has been established. Key features include:
- One-Way Movement: Specific routes have been designated for one-way traffic to prevent congestion and ensure a steady flow of pilgrims.
- Barricading: Five new barricaded areas have been set up in the Sangam nose region to minimize clashes between devotees and akhadas (religious groups).
- Parking Arrangements: Seven parking zones have been created on the outskirts of Prayagraj to keep vehicles from entering the city center, thereby reducing congestion.
- Security Personnel Deployment: Additional paramilitary forces are stationed at strategic points to assist in crowd control and ensure safety.
Authorities are particularly focused on preventing large gatherings in one area, a priority following the recent stampede incident. The police and mela administration have been instructed to keep pilgrims moving and avoid any bottlenecks.

The preparations for Basant Panchami include:
- Medical Teams on Standby: Over 1,200 medical personnel will be available throughout the fairgrounds to provide immediate assistance if needed.
- Holding Areas: Approximately 44 holding areas have been planned to accommodate pilgrims in case of excessive crowds.
- Transportation Arrangements: The Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (UPSRTC) has arranged for 2,500 buses to facilitate transportation for returning devotees. Shuttle buses will operate every two minutes between key locations and temporary bus stations.
In addition, special measures are being taken to maintain cleanliness and ensure that facilities such as toilets and changing rooms are available for the convenience of attendees.
As the date approaches, officials remain vigilant, continuously monitoring the situation to adapt to any changes that may arise. With these extensive arrangements in place, authorities aim for a successful and safe Basant Panchami Amrit Snan at Mahakumbh 2025.
