The Haryana cabinet has approved the Haryana Wildlife (Protection) Rules, 2024, replacing the old 1974 rules. These new rules set clear guidelines for getting permits and approvals from the wildlife department.
The rules outline detailed procedures for permits related to wildlife education, scientific research, and conservation of specific plant species. They also introduce a structured process for individuals conducting surveys in wildlife sanctuaries. Additionally, a registration system for arms possession has been included.
The new framework regulates trade and commerce involving wildlife animals, articles, and trophies. It also defines powers and procedures for handling wildlife-related offences, ensuring better management and enforcement.
The Haryana government stated that these rules will simplify the permit process, improve transparency, and strengthen conservation efforts.

The cabinet also approved ₹3 crore as compensation for arhtiyas (commission agents) for weight loss due to moisture in the 2024-25 Rabi procurement season. The amount will be shared by different departments, including the Food, Civil Supplies, and Consumer Affairs Department.
Additionally, an amendment was made to the Haryana Village Common Lands (Regulation) Act, 1961. Changes were made to the rules regarding the sale of shamlat deh land and unauthorized constructions. Approval authority has now been shifted from the state government to the director of panchayats.
