Prime Minister Narendra Modi has praised the efforts of sanitation workers at the Mahakumbh Mela, emphasizing their dedication to cleanliness, safety, and public health. Apart from sanitation efforts, the Prime Minister also highlighted the successful implementation of an extensive eye care initiative, called the ‘Netra Mahakumbh.’ As per a press release from the Press Information Bureau (PIB), more than two lakh eye check-ups have been conducted during the event. Around 1.5 lakh people received free medicines and spectacles, while approximately 16,000 patients were referred to hospitals for cataract and other eye-related surgeries.
This initiative aims to provide quality eye care services to people, particularly those who may not have easy access to medical facilities. The large-scale health campaign demonstrates the administration’s commitment to social welfare and healthcare accessibility. By integrating such services within a religious event, the government ensures that pilgrims not only receive spiritual nourishment but also essential healthcare support.
