Wildfires in South Korea’s southeast have caused massive destruction, forcing people to leave their homes. At least 15 people have died, and thousands of prison inmates had to be relocated. The fires, which started on Saturday, continue to spread, destroying entire neighborhoods and historic sites.
Authorities have declared the affected areas as special disaster zones. Many people lost their lives while trying to escape, with some vehicles overturning in the chaos. The fire also burned down an old Buddhist temple and forced the evacuation of a UNESCO-listed village.

Acting President Han Duck-soo has promised to send firefighting helicopters and emergency teams to control the wildfires. Strong winds and dry weather are making it difficult to stop the fire. Firefighters are working day and night to put out the flames, but the situation remains serious.
The government is providing help to those affected and working to prevent further loss of life and property. Rescue teams continue their efforts as the wildfires remain out of control.
