This 50-year old man was detained by Chennai Police,  dressed in saffron robes, and posed as a priest for peddling contraband.M Damu, a Royapettah resident, was discovered disguised as a priest outside many temples in Mylapore and Royapettah.  Officials began following individuals around temples after getting information that ganja was being peddled there. He was caught together with two of his suppliers, and police recovered seven kilos of ganja from him.

A senior Police officer said, “We received information that ganja is being sold from temple premises, and our team found that Damu was frequently seen at different temples, and was changing his location every week.”

Two of Damu's associates were also apprehended after Damu provided information.

On Wednesday, when the police saw Damu in front of a temple in Ice House, they pretended to be clients and asked him for ganja, which he delivered them folded in a newspaper. Damu was captured as a result of this information.

On Thursday, he was remanded in judicial detention. The Ice House police apprehended M Raja (55) of Theni and E Aasaithamni of Mayiladuthurai, who were providing ganja to Damu, based on information obtained following interrogation.
