On the birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, the whole country is remembering him. On this occasion, President Ram Nath Kovind and Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid a floral homage at his Samadhi “Sadaiv Atal” in New Delhi this morning.
Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, Union Ministers Amit Shah, Rajnath Singh, Piyush Goyal, Nirmala Sitharaman and others also paid floral homage at ‘Sadaiv Atal.’
Vajpayee co-founded the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in 1980. He was born on December 25, 1924, in Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh. He was the first leader from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to be elected as the Prime Minister of the country. He served as the Prime Minister for 16 days in 1996, then for two terms between 1998 to 2004.
“Remembering Atal Ji on his Jayanti. We are inspired by his rich service to the nation. He devoted his life towards making India strong and developed. His development initiatives positively impacted millions of Indians,” Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted.
Vajpayee’s birth anniversary was declared “Good Governance Day” by the Modi government in 2014.
In 2015, he was awarded with the Bharat Ratna. Following a prolonged illness, Vajpayee passed away on August 16, 2018 at the All-India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS). He was 93 years old at the time.
