All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Delhi has placed its 50 doctors in isolation after some of them tested positive for Covid-19 and others developed symptoms.

According to news agency ANI on Tuesday, the hospital has cancelled all faculty members' remaining winter vacation from January 5 to January 10 and has urged them to come to work 'with immediate effect.'

Aside from AIIMS, over 23 doctors at the nearby Safdarjung Hospital have tested positive for the coronavirus in the last week.

A doctor at Safdarjung Hospital said, “These are not Omicron cases. Symptoms are mostly minor and no hospitalization is required for any case. They are all isolating themselves.”

Delhi recorded 4,099 new Covid-19 cases on Monday, up from 3,194 the day before, a 28 percent increase in only 24 hours. From Sunday's 4.59 percent, the case positive rate increased to 6.46 percent. The total number of cases in Delhi increased to 14,58,220 as a result of this.

Meanwhile, a meeting has been called by the Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) to assess the increasing Covid-19 scenario in the capital city.
