The Indian Army retaliated on Wednesday, days after China broadcast a propaganda video of PLA soldiers unfurling their national flag in Ladakh's Galwan Valley.

Around 30 Indian soldiers were spotted holding the national flag in one of the photos. Another shot shows the group carrying the national flag and another Tricolor flying high on a flagpole next to a makeshift observation post.

The images were taken on January 1 in the Galwan Valley, according to a PTI report citing sources.

Union law and justice minister Kiren Rijiju also shared the photos on Twitter with the description "brave Indian Army soldiers in Galwan Valley on the occasion of #NewYear2022."

On New Year's Day, troops from both sides shared sweets and greetings at ten border sites along the Line of Actual Control (LAC), including in eastern Ladakh and North Sikkim, in what was considered as a show of goodwill.

Following a deadly fight in the Pangong lake areas, an eastern Ladakh border stalemate between Indian and Chinese forces erupted on May 5, 2020.

Both sides gradually increased their deployment by bringing in tens of thousands of troops and heavy equipment.

Last year, the two sides concluded the disengagement process on the north and south banks of the Pangong Lake, as well as in the Gogra area, following a series of military and diplomatic talks.

In the sensitive region, each side has between 50,000 and 60,000 troops deployed along the Line of Actual Control (LAC).

In October, the 13th session of Corps Commander-level military negotiations came to a halt, with the Indian Army claiming that it had made "useful proposals."

On November 18, India and China agreed to hold the 14th round of military discussions as soon as possible in order to achieve the goal of complete disengagement in eastern Ladakh's remaining contention points.

The Chinese side has yet to reply to the next round of military negotiations, according to reports.

On Friday, the defence ministry claimed it had held multiple rounds of military negotiations with the Chinese side to deescalate the situation in eastern Ladakh while maintaining its position of "full disengagement and prompt restoration of status quo ante."

India has insisted on reverting to the status quo that prevailed prior to the confrontation in early May 2020.
