Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi, who is embroiled in a political brawl with the BJP over Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s security breach, retaliated today with a statement from BJP stalwart Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.
“In a country like India, someone who is more concerned about his life than his duty should not take on a huge responsibility,” Mr. Channi wrote, beside a portrait of the independence fighter.
“Where was the threat to his life?” Channi remarked at a press conference. Nobody was even a kilometer away from you. There were no stones thrown, no bullets fired, and no slogans shouted. You can’t say ‘I made it alive!’ Such a delicate remark from such a powerful figure. People elected you Prime Minister; now is the time for you to make appropriate statements. You’re implying that we intend to assassinate our Prime Minister.”
