Guru Gobind Singh’s Jayanti occurs every year in December or January, according to the Gregorian calendar. However, the Guru’s birth anniversary is commemorated annually according to the Nanakshahi calendar. It falls on January 9, 2022 this year.

Devotees congregate on this day to offer their blessings prayers. They hold large meetings where they sing devotional songs and share meals with both adults and children. Following that, they give specific prayers at gurudwaras, or places of worship. Food plays an important role in the celebrations as well. Many worshippers flock to Punjab’s Golden Temple on this auspicious day to offer prayers and take a bath in the sacred sarovar. However, due to the rising number of Covid-19 cases in the country, celebrations would be muted this year.
