Iran has offered to help India send wheat, medicines, and coronavirus vaccines to Afghanistan, which is now experiencing a severe humanitarian crisis.
According to the Iranian foreign ministry, Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian made the offer during a telephone chat with External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Saturday.
According to the Iranian foreign ministry, Amir-Abdollahian also advocated for the formation of an inclusive administration in Kabul during their conversation.
"Amir Abdollahian emphasised the importance of forming an inclusive government in Afghanistan. He also mentioned India's humanitarian aid to Afghanistan, declaring that the Islamic Republic of Iran is taking steps and cooperating with India to deliver wheat, medicine, and the COVID-19 vaccine to the country "In a statement, it stated.
Iran and Afghanistan share a boundary of roughly 920 kilometres.
Three separate consignments of life-saving medications and COVID-19 vaccinations have already been despatched to Afghanistan by India. While the initial shipment was sent on a special charter flight that brought 104 individuals from Kabul to New Delhi, the subsequent relief was delivered to Kabul on a Mahan Air flight from Iran.
However, India has failed to deliver the 50,000 tonnes of wheat it promised to provide to Afghanistan since mechanisms for shipping the aid through Pakistan have yet to be worked out with Islamabad.
India has the option of supplying help to Afghanistan through Iran's Chabahar port.
The Chabahar port, located in the Sistan-Balochistan province on Iran's southern coast, is being constructed by India and Iran to strengthen commercial connections.
Following the Taliban's takeover of Afghanistan in August, major donors froze non-humanitarian financing, causing a severe economic crisis that exacerbated the humanitarian disaster.
"FM @Amirabdolahian, my Iranian coworker, and I had a wide-ranging talk. Covid's obstacles, Afghanistan's challenges, Chabahar's chances, and the complexity of the Iranian nuclear issue were discussed "On Saturday, Jaishankar sent out a tweet.
According to the Iranian foreign ministry, Jaishankar also mentioned his country's help to Afghanistan and stated that India's approach toward that country has not changed.
Following the Taliban's takeover of Afghanistan on August 15, India has been in contact with Iran about the situation there.
Two months ago, the Iranian National Security Advisor attended a regional summit on the Afghan problem held by India. NSAs from Russia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan also attended the conclave.
According to the Iranian foreign ministry, Amir-Abdollahian and Jaishankar discussed crucial bilateral, regional, and international problems.
"In answer to the Indian foreign minister's question regarding the latest status in Iran's fight against the coronavirus," it stated, "Amir-Abdollahian referred to the Islamic Republic's good trend of nationwide vaccination."
The Iranian foreign minister stated that the Vienna talks on eliminating sanctions on Iran are progressing in the "correct way."
"We have the necessary will to reach a good agreement in good faith," Amir-Abdollahian said, according to the Iranian foreign ministry. "If the Western side also has this goodwill and determination, we can reach a good agreement."
In 2015, Tehran and other world powers, including the EU, reached an agreement on Iran's nuclear programme. Its goal was to put a stop to Iran's nuclear ambitions. In May 2018, the United States pulled out of the agreement and reimposed sanctions on Iran. There have been new attempts to resurrect the agreement.
According to the Iranian foreign ministry, Jaishankar also mentioned India's fight against the pandemic, saying that while the number of cases was increasing, vaccination was progressing well.
"He expressed his delight at Iran's top diplomat's upcoming visit to India, calling it a fantastic opportunity to expand bilateral cooperation," the statement continued.
