Rahul Gandhi, the former Congress president and Wayanad MP, returned to India on Sunday night after a personal trip overseas, according to party sources on Monday. According to party sources, he assumed command as soon as he arrived in the capital, and a conference was scheduled to address the political situation in Goa, where assembly elections are scheduled for February 14.

Through video conferencing, the Congress leader met with General Secretary KC Venugopal and Senior Observer of the AICC for Goa P Chidambaram on the matter today evening, taking stock of the state's poll preparedness and campaign plan. 

"Rahul Gandhi, the Congress leader, arrived in Delhi late last night. He met with KC Venugopal, the party's leader, and P Chidambaram this evening to discuss the Goa Assembly elections, according to reports.

Previously, a meeting of Rahul Gandhi was scheduled for January 16 in Goa, but it was postponed by the party due to an increase in COVID-19 cases. 

In the last week of December, the Wayanad MP travelled abroad. Rahul Gandhi is on a "short personal visit," according to Congress general secretary Randeep Surjewala. 

"He went on a personal visit abroad and will return shortly,"According to reports"At the same time, he took on the BJP and asked them not to spread rumours about it."

His visit coincided with the start of election preparations in five poll-bound states, putting the Congress to the test not only in terms of its capacity to limit the BJP, but also in terms of its position as the principal opponent to the ruling party at the federal level. 

The Goa Assembly elections are set to take place on February 14. On March 10th, all states will have their ballots counted.

Chief Election Commissioner Sushil Chandra announced the vote dates at a news briefing in Delhi on Saturday. The model code of conduct has taken effect with the publication of polling dates.
