Indian captain Virat Kohli announced on the eve of the series finale in Cape Town that he has recovered from his injury and would play the final Test. Mohammed Siraj, a fast-medium bowler, is ruled out due to a hamstring issue.
“This isn’t the first time I’ve done something like this. Let’s not go too far from reality. It happened to me a few times throughout my career. One of these episodes was England 2014. But I don’t see myself through the same lens that the rest of the world does. And, in the end, the criteria we’re discussing today, the ones by which I’m being judged, were established by myself. As a result, they are not a natural occurrence. And, more than anyone else, I take great satisfaction in trying to do the best I can for the team and performing on a regular basis,” the skipper remarked.
He expressed the team’s viewpoint. “You have to recognise that in sports, things don’t always go the way you expect them to. But, at the end of the day, I realise that, as a player, as a batsman, I’ve been a part of some of the team’s most pivotal moments in the last calendar year or so. And it’s a source of great satisfaction for me to have been a member of so many critical collaborations when the team needed me.
“And in many Test matches, such moments have proven to be critical for us.” As a result, your attention point had to alter on occasion. I don’t think you’ll ever be pleased or happy with what you’re doing if you constantly look at yourself and judge yourself on the basis of numbers and milestones. And I’m happy with how I’m playing and what I’ve been able to accomplish for the team in difficult situations.”
