The Tata Group, one of India's major commercial empires, is expected to replace Chinese smartphone maker Vivo as the Indian Premier League's title sponsor starting this year, according to the event's governing council, which met on Tuesday.
IPL chairman Brijesh Patel confirmed the news to PTI, saying, "Yes, Tata group is coming in as IPL title sponsor." Vivo had an agreement for title sponsorship rights worth Rs 2200 crore from 2018 to 2022, however, after the 2020 Galwan Valley military clash between Indian and Chinese Army forces, the company took a year off, with Dream11 taking its place.
Despite rumors that they were looking to sell the rights to a potential bidder, Vivo returned as IPL title sponsor in 2021, and the BCCI authorized the move.
According to Cricbuzz, a couple of BCCI executives who attended the Governing Council meeting verified the name change. According to the website, Vivo requested and received approval to terminate the IPL sponsorship deal.

For the next two years, Tata will be the IPL’s title sponsor, according to insiders, after Vivo won the rights to the tournament for INR 440 crore a year earlier this year. Due to the Indo-China political crisis, Vivo had previously delayed their partnership for a year in 2020, with Dream 11 serving as the title sponsor. The IPL 2022 season is set to begin in April, with the super auction for IPL 2022 players taking place in February.
