After NCP politician and Maharashtra minister Nawab Malik accused him of falsifying documents to gain a government job, lying about his religion, and arresting people in “bogus” drug cases, the IRS official found himself in the middle of a political tempest. All claims against Wankhede have been refuted. Wankhede was also accused by Malik of falsifying his caste certificate and other documents in order to get a job as an IRS officer through the SC quota after passing the UPSC exam. Wankhede is a Muslim by birth, according to Malik.
