Shashi Tharoor's Word Of The Day Is A Blow At The BJP: Anocracy
Shashi Tharoor, a Congress MP noted for his extensive vocabulary, used a sarcastic tweet on Sunday to criticize the BJP government at the center by coining the term "anocracy."
On Sunday evening, a Congress MP from Kerala's Thiruvananthapuram tweeted a blatant attack on the federal government, "A word we'd better start learning in India: ANOCRACY. Form of government that mixes democratic w/ autocratic features, permits elections, allows participation through opposition parties & institutions accommodating nominal amounts of competition, but acts w/minimal accountability (sic)."
Just a day after the Election Commission announced polling dates for five states the minister tweeted, as Congress attempts to resurrect its fortunes after a string of election losses in recent years.
The Congress is fighting to keep power in Punjab, while the BJP is fighting for power in Uttar Pradesh. It became the single-largest political party in Manipur in 2017. After a series of resignations, however, the state was lost to the BJP.
Other states where it is attempting to maintain its position as a strong competitor include Goa and Uttarakhand. However, Mr. Tharoor, 65, a man of many words, has been slamming the opposition party on Twitter with fresh terms on a regular basis.
