The Supreme Court has charged the administration of taking farmland by force.
The Telangana High Court's Justice Vinod Kumar has chastised the state government and land acquisition officials for forcibly acquiring agricultural properties from farmers without passing an award or following the established land acquisition procedure.
The petitioners told the court that they had discovered that their land records had been modified and that their holdings had thus fallen under the scope of the irrigation project. "How could the authorities amend the documents and take away the land without paying a compensation amount?" the petitioners bemoaned.
According to the petitioners, the preliminary notification is only effective for a period of 12 months after it is issued. However, in this situation, the authorities relied on the previous notification after a considerable period of time.
