Now, there are no ringing of distress calls on flood control rooms set up at district and Sub Division level, but we are performing our duty to bring normalcy back, says DC Mohali Aashika Jain on Sunday.

      " We are not in a relaxing mode, yet, there are so many responsibilities we have to fulfil to ease the flood related problems of the residents such as connectivity of roads, to protect them from Waterborne diseases, to take care of their animals from diseases like hypothermia and off feed", added Ashika Jain.

      The district administration teams today i.e. on Sunday worked even more diligently to make the schools functional  to welcome the students from Monday onwards. Department of Rural Development and Panchayats, led by ADC (Rural Development) Amit Bamby remained active to dewater and clean the school premises so that students and teachers would not face any difficulty tomorrow.

At Village, Bahera in Derabassi, a JCB was engaged to clear the water besides laying the pipeline.

      The deputy commissioner further said that to protect the residents from the Waterborne diseases, drinking water samples collected from Rurka, Bakarpur, Kurari, Kambala, Sohana, Balongi and budmajra, today by the team of Water Supply and Sanitation department in the supervision of Executive Engineer Ramanpreet Singh. The department has a mobile water testing lab also to analyse the samples on the spot, she added. Besides, all the water supplies being run by the departments also made functional and regular chlorination is being done at all the water supply schemes. The water supply of Balongi has been temporarily discontinued in wake of the Diarrhoea problem, she further added.

     To prevent the outbreak of Dengue and other seasonal Vector borne diseases, the Municipal Corporation Mohali and Greater Mohali Area Development Authority have done the fogging in its areas of operation. Besides, the other Municipal Councils of the district have also been doing regular fogging besides adding chemicals in stagnant waters to contain larvae of mosquitoes.

    Health Teams have been conducting medical camps in the district, particularly, flood affected areas to examine the people to protect them from the seasonal diseases and outbreaks, added deputy commissioner.

     The animal husbandry department is working in the field to protect the animals from the post flood  common diseases, such as hypothermiya and Off Feed. The rears are being made aware to keep regular checks on low body temperature and reduce appetite of animals, these days.

     The deputy commissioner said that the most important work that we have undertaken is the plugging of Ghaggar breach at Tiwana village. Sub Divisional Magistrate Derabassi Himanshu Gupta along with Revenue Officers Kuldip Singh Dhillon and Harinderjit Singh and Executive Engineer Drainage Rajat Grover are working round the clock to plug the breach, she added.

      We hope, we will complete the gigantic task of repairs and restoration by next week, expressed DC Ashika in a very positive attitude.
