Recently, a controversy has arisen surrounding senior Congress leader and Lok Sabha candidate, Shashi Tharoor. He stands accused of orchestrating a false campaign against Union Minister and rival candidate, Rajeev Chandrasekhar. The incident in question occurred during a televised program where Tharoor purportedly made defamatory remarks against Chandrasekhar, alleging his involvement in influencing voters in coastal regions ahead of the impending Lok Sabha election.

Legal ramifications and ongoing investigation
The complaint against Tharoor was filed by BJP leader J R Padmakumar, prompting the Cyber Police to initiate an investigation. The case has been registered under Sections 171-G and 500 of the Indian Penal Code, as well as Section 65 of the IT Act. These sections pertain to making false statements in connection with an election and defamation, respectively. As per the Cyber Police, the investigation into the matter is currently underway, with Tharoor yet to respond to the allegations.
