Ambedkar Scholarship: free foreign education for dalits in Delhi
Kejriwal launches Ambedkar Scholarship for free foreign education of dalit students in Delhi
In a landmark announcement ahead of the Delhi assembly elections, AAP supremo Arvind Kejriwal unveiled the Dr. Ambedkar Samman Scholarship. This initiative aims to provide free foreign education to Dalit students from Delhi, with the government covering the entire cost of education, travel, and accommodation. The scholarship underscores the Delhi government’s commitment to educational equality and empowerment.
Speaking at the AAP headquarters, Kejriwal emphasized the significance of education as a transformative tool, citing Dr. B.R. Ambedkar’s own journey to earning a PhD in the United States against tremendous odds. “Ambedkar always believed education was the way forward. This scholarship is a tribute to his vision and a response to the BJP’s recent insult to his legacy,” he stated. Kejriwal also criticized Union Home Minister Amit Shah for allegedly “insulting and making fun of Babasaheb Ambedkar in Parliament,” which he claimed caused deep pain to millions who revere the architect of the Indian Constitution.
Under this scheme, any Dalit student from Delhi who secures admission to a foreign university will be eligible for financial support. This includes children of government employees, although specific details on the timeline and implementation process remain undisclosed. Kejriwal assured that the government would ensure a smooth and transparent rollout of the scholarship to maximize its impact.

Additional promises ahead of Polls
As part of its election campaign, the AAP has pledged several welfare measures. These include a monthly allowance of ₹2,100 for all adult women and free medical treatment for senior citizens at both government and private hospitals. These promises reflect the party’s focus on social welfare and its efforts to address key voter concerns.
The announcement of the Ambedkar scholarship is expected to resonate strongly with the Dalit community and reinforce the AAP’s commitment to inclusive governance. By facilitating higher education opportunities abroad, the initiative aims to empower Dalit youth and honor Ambedkar’s enduring legacy of social justice and education for all.
