Amit Shah to present District good governance index for J&K’s 20 districts

On Saturday, Union Home Minister Amit Shah will unveil the first-of-its-kind District Good Governance Index for Jammu and Kashmir's 20 districts.

Dr. Jitendra Singh, Union Minister for Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions, and Manoj Sinha, Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, will also speak at the event, which is being organized by the Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances (DARPG) and the Jammu and Kashmir Institute of Management, Public Administration and Rural Development in collaboration with the Centre for Good Governance in Hyderabad.

Union Home Minister Shah will present the District Good Governance Index for 20 districts of Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday, according to a statement from the Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions.

The DARPG prepared the District Good Governance Index for Jammu and Kashmir in collaboration with the Government of Jammu and Kashmir in response to the announcements made in the "Behtar e-Hukumat - Kashmir Aelamia" resolution adopted on July 2, 2021, in Srinagar at the Regional Conference on Replication of Good Governance Practices, it said.

The process of developing a District Good Governance Index began in July 2021 and is now complete, according to the statement. Jammu and Kashmir will be the first union territory in the country to have a Good Governance Index, according to the statement.

According to the statement, Jammu and Kashmir's District Good Governance Index marks a substantial administrative change in benchmarking good governance at the district level, as well as a significant step toward timely compilation and release of statistics at the state/district level.

It is believed that the index will provide a strong framework for the evidence-based assessment of the performance of all districts in Jammu and Kashmir, according to the report.

The Centre for Good Governance, Hyderabad, will give a presentation on the development of the District Good Governance Index during the event, according to the statement, which will be followed by district presentations by 12 District Development Commissioners who will highlight achievements in various sectors.
