Among world leaders, PM Modi has the greatest approval rating

Prime Minister Narendra Modi continues to lead the list of world leaders with the greatest approval ratings, leaving US President Joe Biden and his Canadian counterpart Justin Trudeau. PM Modi has a net approval rating of 50, according to the latest approval ratings from data intelligence firm Morning Consult, with 71% of respondents voting in his favour and 21% voting against him.

PM Modi has the highest approval rating (71%) among the 13 leaders surveyed by the research firm, followed by Mexico’s Andrés Manuel López Obrador (66%), Italy’s Mario Draghi (60%), and Japan’s Fumio Kishida (60%). (48 per cent). PM Modi also has the lowest disapproval rating, with 21% of the vote.

President Joe Biden of the United States and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau were ranked sixth and seventh, respectively, with approval ratings of 43% and 43%. Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison at 41%. With a 26% popularity rating, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, who is engaged in the ‘party gate’ scandal, came last among the leaders polled.

PM Modi’s approval rating has risen to 84 percent in the last two years, with a peak of 84 percent on May 2, 2020. On May 7, 2021, when the second wave of coronavirus was at its peak in the country, his approval rating was at its lowest, at 63%.

President Joe Biden’s approval rating has dropped to 43%, the lowest level of his presidency. Due to a spike in Covid-19 deaths and the premature withdrawal of US forces from Afghanistan, Biden’s popularity began to decline in mid-August last year, after holding above 50% in his first months in office.

The current approval ratings are based on data collected from January 13-19, 2022, for all 13 countries, providing real-time insight into altering political dynamics around the world. The approval ratings in each country are based on a seven-day moving average of adult residents.

How the survey is conducted

Morning Consult conducts surveys based on real-time polling data about political elections, elected politicians, and voting problems. Every day, the research organisation conducts over 20,000 adult interviews throughout the world. The data for the global leader and country trajectory is based on a seven-day moving average of all adults in a specific country, with a margin of error of +/- 3%. While the average sample size in the United States is 45,000, in other nations, it ranges from 3,000 to 5,000.

In each country, surveys are weighted by age, gender, area, and, in some cases, education breakdowns based on official government sources. The sample in India is typical of the country’s literate population.
