Indian archers achieved a historic milestone at the Asian Games, clinching a remarkable total of nine medals. Among these, Ojas Deotale and Jyothi Surekha Vennam stood out by securing a remarkable hat-trick of gold medals in the compound archery discipline. India's performance was particularly remarkable as they swept the compound archery event, winning a total of five gold medals.

Ojas Deotale and Jyothi Surekha Vennam etched their names in history with their outstanding performances. Additionally, Aditi Swami contributed to India's medal haul by securing a bronze in archery.

Gold medal sweep

India's dominance in the compound archery discipline was evident with their gold medal victories in all five categories, showcasing their exceptional skill and consistency.

Aditi Swami, the reigning world champion, kicked off the day by ensuring India's ninth archery medal at the Asian Games. Despite not performing at her best and dropping a few points, Aditi secured a comfortable win against her Indonesian opponent, Ratih Zilizati Fadhly, with a final score of 146-140.

Jyothi Surekha Vennam, who had already secured gold medals in the mixed pair and women's team events, achieved a historic hat-trick of gold medals by defeating her formidable South Korean opponent, So Chaewon, with a score of 149-145.

Ojas Deotale's victory

In a captivating showdown between mentor and protege, 21-year-old reigning world champion Ojas Deotale emerged victorious, defeating the 34-year-old opponent by a margin of two points. Deotale's nearly flawless performance, dropping just one point, secured the gold medal with a final score of 149-147.

India's previous best archery performance at the Asian Games was in Incheon 2014 when the nation won three medals. However, the outstanding performance at Hangzhou 2022 marked a significant improvement, solidifying India's prowess in the sport and making it a memorable moment in the country's sporting history.
