In a tragic turn of events, 54-year-old Arjuna Awardee and Punjab Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Dalbir Singh Deol was discovered dead under mysterious circumstances near a canal in Basti Bawa Khel on the outskirts of Jalandhar. His lifeless body, bearing multiple injuries, was found abandoned, triggering an investigation by the police.

Dalbir Singh Deol, known for his achievements as an Asian Games gold medallist in weightlifting, failed to return home after celebrating New Year with friends on Saturday night. Concerned about his absence, the family lodged a missing complaint, leading to the grim discovery near the canal.

Incident follows recent controversy

The DSP had been involved in a recent incident on December 16, where he opened fire in an inebriated state following a disagreement with residents of Basti Ibrahim Khan village in Jalandhar. The dispute arose when villagers objected to his public drinking. Despite his brief detention, a compromise was reached, and no case was registered.
