Arvind Kejriwal Responds to PM Statement On Migrant Escape

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and the leaders of the ruling Congress and Shiv Sena in Maharashtra today slammed Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s claim that they helped spread Covid by allowing migrant workers to return home after the lockdown was announced in 2020.

Mr. Kejriwal called the Prime Minister’s comments “blatant lies,” accusing him of playing politics with the people’s “sufferings.”

“The country expects that the Prime Minister will be empathetic to people who have faced the sorrow of the Corona time, particularly those who have lost loved ones,” he wrote in Hindi in his tweet.

PM Modi had blamed the opposition of being responsible for the widespread spread of Covid in the early stages of the pandemic in his response to the debate on the Motion of Thanks to President’s speech.

He remarked, referring to the opposition-controlled administrations in Maharashtra and Delhi: “The Congress went beyond its bounds. During the first wave, the Congress supplied tickets to labourers to travel and spread coronavirus at the Mumbai railway station. On Delhi, the government installed microphones in jeeps driving through slums and organised buses”.

According to him, this resulted in an outbreak of the virus in Uttar Pradesh and other places “where corona wasn’t as intense.”

Balasaheb Thorat, the Maharashtra Revenue Minister and a prominent Congress politician, called the Prime Minister’s remarks “unfortunate.”

“During the lockdown, the Maharashtra Vikas Aghadi did a lot of work for the labourers from Bihar and Uttar Pradesh. We looked after them and procured their tickets when they decided to return home. We took on the responsibilities that the central government should have taken” he stated.

Bhai Jagtap, the Mumbai Congress chairman, questioned how the virus got into the country.

“Rahul Gandhi had already stated that international flights should be halted in order to prevent the spread of cases, but this was not done,” he claimed. He also mentioned the government’s involvement in the situation.

We dispatched 106 trains. We did the labour of paying the remaining 25% of the fee and arranging for their food and drink when the government claimed they would waive 75% of the fare,” he added.

Priyanka Chaturvedi of the Shiv Sena claimed that they will “repeat this mistake 100 times over… for humanity.”

During the outbreak of the epidemic, one of the major challenges was the migrant crisis, which the opposition has blamed on the government.
